After replacing the keel cable and turning ball, what is the best sealant to use at the bottom of the hose between it and the volcano? Gonna do my C-22 this spring, but the process should be the same as on a C-25. I've got the cable & ball/pin from a guy who sold his boat before using them, but have not bought the hose or sealant yet.

Sounds good. I hope it's the same with a C-22. Thanks, guys. I know it will sound crazy to some of you, but this will be my first cable change-out on the C-22, and we bought her in 1977. Fresh water boat, but has spent the last 6 years as a trailer-sailor while I had the C-25 in the slip. In the slip 20+ years with winter haul-outs and cable inspection at that time, the keel always stayed full down, so the cable and winch had very little use. Salt water sailing would have been a whole different game.
I strongly caution against using 4200 for this. This, and most other things on boats, need to be removed at some point. Stick to bedding compounds and sealers where indicated instead of adhesives and you will be happier in the future.
Now you got me thinking why I thought this was the correct method. I guess I read it somewhere on another post and thought that was how it was done. I remember I had a hell of a time getting the old one off. I had to cut it off. Looks like I'm in for the same treat next time!
Yep, something is wrong if hose clamps, doubled below the waterline, don't seal a very low pressure system. I also use doubled clamps on the head for reasons other than sinking.
