I cannot find out any more info on this boat. Dose anyone know about this, and could it be that I have the 36th boat made in Wodenvile CA? in 1977? <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">
What does the boat's HIN number say? Should be on the transom, starboard side as I remember, right up at the very top. It should also be on your registration/title for the boat.
Confetti's HIN is: CTYJ0001M76G I suspect the CTY stands for Catalina, no clue on the J, the 0001 is her hull #, and M76G is probably the year (76) and most likely the month? and ? she was built.

It is my understanding that Catalina used the fourth character for the model designation. CTY(H) = C22, CTY(L) = C27, CTY(N) = for C30, CTY(A) = C250, but all of the HIN's I've seen for a C25, including mine, have a "K" for the model. Your J doesn't follow the usual conventions and a quick Google shows that Catalina used the J for the C380???

(A=Aug., B=Sept., etc.--totally intuitive!) I believe M means that 76 is the <b>M</b>odel year. The date format changed in 1984 to show a month/year built, (with A=Jan.) followed by a separate model year. K485 would be built in November '84 as an '85 model.
About that J... Maybe yours is really a C-24!
Alan: This Hull Information Number should appear just below the rub-rail on the starboard side of the transom, and might look like it was scratched into the gelcoat with a hot nail. (Mine did.)

Dave and Don,,
Thanks for the insight on the straightforward numbering scheme used <grin>. No telling what Frank, etal were thinking with the J ? I suspect the 380 was not being thought about in 1976, and plans for what to use for HINs appear to have changed at least once..... Mine is also not molded in either, looks like it was added by a hot nail or engraver like yours. Doesn't much matter I guess since the number on the hull and the number on the Bill of Sale and the number on the registration all match and the little metal plate says 1 on it too (for what thats worth)!!!! <smile>
I agree that the best advice for Alan is to simply contact Catalina....
Cheers! Chuck
PS: Did everyone see Tom Curran's 25 "Island Time II" hanging from the bridge in this latest Mainsheet on pp 12-13??? Heartbreaking that Tom had to sell her. I was told he was able to sell her to a guy that will be getting a new rig and getting her sailing again. Tom was dialing her in pretty good for racing and that bright orange bottom paint sure showed up well!!
The number on the little metal plate is the hull number. It is not the HIN. In the early model of C-25s, like my 1978, the HIM was literally scratched into the fiberglass on the right hand side of the transome under the rub rail. When I had to register my boat I took along a discussion from this forum stating that this was the case for other boats too. Otherwise they would only believe that I had scratched the number in myself - it looks so cheesey.
