To say they "sailed" it appears to be a stretch--it's unlikely they knew what buttons to push to deploy the sails. I'm sure this is a tragedy to the secretive owner of this 82' Oyster...

Having sailed an Oyster 62', I can assure that Oyster meets the definition of push button sailing. My best guess is that the seacocks to the engine were closed qnd the engine overheated and they didn't know how to sail it. That been said, the reports of Pale Ale indicates a penchant for decent abv beer. And apparently they were well provisioned for the voyage with numerous pizza boxes aboard.

Now, to pull that vessel out of its slip required skill, as did heading out under the GF bridge and heading south. Vessel tracking shows that it went on a proper course until there was a mutiny or the beer kicked in. After that it looks like they drove towards the beach.

I'm confused though. Where did they think they were going? Can't hide that think amongst the other 40 footers.
