I have noticed that a 1/2" PVC pipe runs from Wind Shadow's port cockpit coaming compartment, under the coaming and out to the transom high up under the rub rail. Does anyone else have this mod or am I the only one. I can't figure out what the PO might have used this pipe for. He did a very neat job but there is no sign of any attachments on the transom or in the compartment. Any ideas?

First thing that comes to mind is for wiring of some sort. Maybe like leads to a GPS antenna mounted on the stern rail.?????????

Could it be for ventilation? Is the gas tank anywhere near this pipe?

There is no obvious signs of attachment on the transom, stern pulpit or deck. It's also not ventilation as it only connects the coaming compartment to the outside of the taransom.

Bruce,

Maybe that was for when the PO couldn't go below to use the head! Any suspicious stains? <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I was going to suggest it was for the alternator wire going back to the battery, but I think you have a starboard mounted outboard so I'm not so sure!

Not sure what year you have Bruce, but on the 78 thats the sail locker area...Any chance it was there just to hang lines on ?

Nope, no yellow stains on my boat. To high up in the seat back to be used to hang anything on, can't be for ventilation as it has no openings into the boat and finally, yes, the outboard is mounted on the starboard side with a connection for the alternator wire. I guess it is just one of those PO ideas.

Boat was an insurance write off from California. I have tried to track her but all inquires to the insurance company meet with the same answer. NO, the privacy act or something like it prohibits this. Oh Well, she is otherwise a good boat and I just won't worry about it.
