I used a 6,500 btu unit with a remote control. In the cockpit hatch, i.e. dumpster, I used a dual set-up. Two high velocity fans with the forward one pointed into the dumpster and pointed a touch forward toward the forward bulkhead and the other blowing up to pull the heated air out, this circulation worked well for me at temps over 100 degrees. I NEVER had a drop of condensation in the dumpster. Sometimes I would boom tent it all and run it when it was raining.

I have a 6,500 Btu with remote also but just place mine in the companionway with a tarp to close up the open space around it.

It cools the boat down into the low to mid 70's in about 15 minutes in 95+ heat. Within 30 minutes it can be down in the upper 60's.
