Peggy just signed up for Active Captain, looks like we can import the local area data to our home port (Garmin software) and of there is supposed to be an App.
Hello Paul, I have the Garmin app on my ipad and active captain is integrated. Also got the weather integrated as well. I think you will find it useful. The anchorage info has come in handy for me several times.
We use it as well, but haven't had much chance (yet) to exercise it. I like the information it provides using the Garmin app on our iPad. However, I find the iPad itself less than useful while underway, you simply can't see the screen.
I've referred to it from time to time. It is additional information which is helpful in conjunction with other sources (cruising guides, charts, etc.).
As with all "crowd sourced" information you need to be careful. Look at the dates of all reviews - some of them are old enough that the information might have changed. Also there occasionally seems to be a reviewer with "an axe to grind." The owner of the database tries to filter those out, but every once in awhile something overly negative gets through.
You can find the same ActiveCaptain information on their website, Garmin apps for Windows and iPad, and some chartplotter software for Win/Mac/Android/iPhone. It's all the same info - your choice how you want to access it.
