It notes on the description that that are not intended for use on sheet winches. I have these on "Mast Confusion" , they came with the boat, and I occasionally have a jamming issue when pulling on the sheets. Since this is my first sailboat and still learning (I guess we all are), should I get rid of the winchers? Experienced sailors that have gone out with me have not mentioned a problem with the winchers, just noting that winches sometimes get jammed. Curious as to your experiences with these.

I installed them on my boat. They really should change the name. They would be better called "cleaters"
They will hold the sheet without having to tie it up on a cleat. That's about all they are good for. I changed my sheets to 5/16" and they work much better than they did with 3/8" lines.
I agree with Davy J, they're not self-tailers, but rather quick and easy cleats for the jib sheets. I used them whenever sheeting/trimming the jib on my C25. I'd definitely keep them. It's much easier to release the line from a wincher if you find yourself in trouble than unwrapping the sheet from a horn cleat, which is what my alternative was.
Good info folks... I always wondered about these. My winches are getting "old" and rather than rebuild them, I'll likely just replace them with ST types. There goes $1200 of my life savings.
Thanks for the info....I am going to try the 5/16 line instead of my current 3/8. Luckily, WM in my area is closing three stores and consolidating into one superstore, I was able to buy Sta-Set X for 75% off the regular price. 185 feet for $50...woohoo!!!
