Rita sometimes reads the forum, but generally only if there's a topic she's curious about or interested in. I don't think she reads it on a daily basis.
It's the opposite in our house... I scan the horse/dog forums just to see what the wife is posting about... Her hobby was Field trialing when we started to date... and she's gotten me into it (with a horse and a dog, now 2 dogs to trial of my own).
While I'd love for her to read some of the sailing sites that provide me with info and inspiration to do the projects/sails I do on my boat... She's not nearly as much into sailing as I am into her hobby. My wife does not possess a sense of balance (her words) to properly enjoy sailing. She has no fear of it, or heeling, of any sort, but doesn't enjoy the experience... I also cannot get her to take the helm and learn to sail. I suspect she'd be really good (she thrives on details, and would have a good eye for it, and the mechanics that make a sailboat go, and go fast).

On a bright side... she knows this forum exists. :-)

Sooooo, what can we do to encourage spouse/partner participation?
I asked Peggy to describe the 'Sailing' experience from her point of view. Now consider that Peggy is retired, is very techy, loves doing research and is my #1 on the boat.
We both love the outdoors but are not super athletic (not sure I should even use the word athletic), both enjoy camping and sailing, photography (digital), computing, electronics and being away from the crowds.
Sailing our C250 fulfills all of those pleasures, but also includes quite a bit of physical activity when it comes to preparing the boat for transport, launch and the return trip.
Peggy is not fond of the boat heeling, perhaps 'upset' would be more appropriate, despite my desire to get the boat going.. anywhere ..she starts to get really anxious at 15 degrees of heel, eventually I capitulate and adjust the sails to get the boat on and even keel, and the boat sails great.
Ok, that should be enough fodder to spur some discussion.
