Have a 1998 C250 with a wheel with a copass on the pedestal. Want to bring the GPS/SONAR to the pedestal. I know I'll have to adjust the compass but need advice on the installation (i.e. wiring from the bulked to the pedestal). Any suggestions? Thanks, G
Our first Garmin GPS had two cables, power etc & Antenna.
I drilled two holes in the port side tube of the pedestal guard just above the pedestal brace. Each hole large enough for the cable and grommet.
I removed the 4 bolts securing the pedestal guard foot to the cockpit deck on each side and released the set screw on each side, then raised the feet up the tube.
The Pedestal guard already had the cables for our ST40 Speed/Depth/Temp display running down the stbd tube.
Then I raised the tube and wedged it up with a piece of 2x4 under the stbd tube.
There was no hole in the cockpit floor under the port side tube, so I twisted the guard out of the way in order to drill a 1" hole in the cockpit floor.
Following stand practice I drilled out the wood/balsa around that hole, sealed the underside with duct tape and filled the void & hole with resin, then drilled a 1/2" hole through that for the two cables.
After running the wires down the tube, through the hole and into the aft berth, I then used butyl tape sealant to ensure it was water tight.
Put the tube back in place, screw everything down and make the electrical connection to the power supply and to our VHF that is in the cabin.
Took a day. It was a lot simpler the second time as when we replaced our original GPS, the new one had a built in Antenna.
The wires were led aft like the steering cables, then to the stbdd side, securing them to the front edge of the trunk roof, then forwards behind the stbd cockpit locker and to the power distribution panel.
Jose, you did not say if you had a pedistal guard. If not I would recommend you get one and install for mounting other equipment. This is a shot of my orginial setup. I will have to get a picture of the present one. Thought I had one, but can't find it. My GPS sits between the tubes right above the instrument pod.
