We have been in a severe drought and our club slips have been on the hard for a year. Well we have had the Biblical rain required to hit our tiny water shed and cure the ills. I launched Saturday and my back yard RV is finally a boat again. Only other sailors understand.

No, only other dry-lake sailors understand. Congrats! (Is your new water a little thick?)

After hearing some of the woes about lake levels, I have a new appreciation for, rain. Don't think we've gone more than 5 consecutive days without rain here in the Ohio Valley - all summer. Lake level is as high (continuously) as I've ever seen it.

Dare I say, now if it would just dry out long enough to pour the footer for the boat shed!

I sailed today and other than needing to futz with the fairlead angle out of the furler drum its all good. I was the only person on the lake and actually wore a hip bag inflatable PFD, I am getting old.

We have a long way to go here in Texas!

Lake Travis just NW of Austin is currently down 58.18' as of 7 PM this evening. This puts it just 8.64' above the all time record low of 614.18' set on August 14, 1951!!!

Where were you in August 1951? Think about how much the world has changed since the last time the soil around the edge of the water has been above the surface of the water. (I know, I'm weird)

The lake's dropped 2.2 feet since we left there 16 days ago. At the current rate the lake is dropping (approx. 1 ft/week) it should hit the record low level around the end of September if we don't get any significant rainfall.

Here's what the lake is supposed to look like when it's full at 681.0' MSL -->> Normal Pool Elevation

And here's what it looks like this afternoon at 622.82' MSL -->> Today (Click on the small box under the large picture on the right to see approx. the same view as the 1st picture).

All of the land in the middle of the lake is supposed to be under 20' of water!

At Canyon Lake so far we have been lucky, it's only just over 10' low despite the severe drought. However, the Guadalupe river which feeds Canyon has just gone dry above the lake. As the idiots who control the lake continue to allow enough out to supply the tubers below the dam and onwards we can expect a continuous drop (our record from a few years back is 17' low.)
