Ken, When I got my '97 C-250, the PO handed me what he thought was the pump handle for the manual bilge pump. Eventually I noticed that the "pump handle" looked much more like the missing hanging locker's rod. I have never found the pump handle in the 7 years I've owned the boat. I made one from a piece of copper pipe with a dowel epoxied inside it and a round wooden ball.
What flap are you referring to Paul? Maybe mine's somewhere on the boat that I just haven't found. Oh, nevermind, I just realized you're talking about where the pump handle fits into the pump mechanism by the boarding ladder.
Thank You! I haven't got such a handle, I wonder if someone could provide a photo, as I'm perplexed. These tiny things nag at me. I hate a feature i can't use or understand. Is the idea simply to create suction on the hole as you push, then let go??
Also, the bow bed.... does the table not drop down to be a part of the bed, or am I missing something?? I'm amazed at how little info there is out there sometimes on the functioning of these boats. Your replys are appreciated.
If your talking about the Catalina supplied table, mine has been in my cellar for the last several years. Mine does not make up any part of bedding structure. Much better tables that are made by owners and fill the space better.
The handle is about 10" long. You stick it in the hole in the pump mechanism under the flap Paul mentioned. Pump it up and down like the pumps you've seen in old western movies. It only moves water when there is water to move in the bilge.
As to the table. Get yourself a piece of PVC pipe roughly 2.5 inches in diameter and 19" long. Remove the metal pipe holding up the table. Insert the PVC and voila, the table is at the same level as the seats on either side. Add a piece of foam cushion the same thickness as the seat/berth cushions and you have that much more room in the V-berth. Oh, yeah, you still have a compression post in the middle of your bed but, that's not really a problem.
Many of us have done table mods. In my case, I felt that the existing settees were wide enough to sleep on (as long as you remove the backrests). I just wanted to get the table out of the way. I chopped my table down into drop leaves. My table was originally white laminate, so I also did a cherry veneer to make it look a little nicer.
