OK. So our centerboard is almost impossible to raise by hand, so we jacked up the end of the boat to get underneath to inspect the keel raising gear. THe turning ball bracket at the bottom of the tube was crushed and the cable was pinched between the ball and the bracket.
We have the keel raising retrofit kit with the line and block, but as I am looking through the forums, I see that the turning ball conversion kit (which is on back order) might not work for the 250 WB. Is this true - is the glass tube too short for it? If so, any ideas what to do with a crushed assembly? The fiberglass around it is intact.
Cat direct is not a bunch of help here. If this retrofit won't work on the boat, they didn't tell us - just let us order it anyway. We need to know before they ship it.
Yes, that's the one. It looks like they could be out of it for about 6 weeks, so we have to try to fix our bent one to get us through our San Juan Islands trip next week. Thanks!
I'm pretty sure our cable has cut into the old ball too! Even though I upgraded the lifting tackle to make it easier, it's a bare again! Thanks for the heads up on backorder status. I'll order ours now.
Looks like it will be a busy winter for upgrades: Arlyn's steering system, Turning Ball, etc. etc.
