New to the Capri 25 and we're having a blast, much to the dismay to the rest of the sailboats on race day!
We're replacing our running rigging as we go and we know that when we drop the mast we'll need to replace the pulleys in the exit box at the bottom of the mast. It seems there is a 'axle' secured by a cotter pin that would allow all 3 (per side) to be released. Is there a source for these pulleys?
Thanks for the help! I called Catalina Direct, I hadn't found the blocks for the mast online but they do carry an updated version - part #R6075. I ordered 6 @ $9.95/ea. As for my halyards, I took the easy (newby) way out and went to Sailboat Owners and used their calculator. I ordered new halyards for the jib and main; 5/16 in. Samson XLS one end whipped eye splice to 1033 Ronstan headboard shackle 1/4in. I hear what your saying about the 5/16 in being overkill. Or boat sat out for 3-4 years so it was hard to determine if they had just swelled or ???
We figured we would stay original until we became more familiar with her.
On a side note, we sail on a TVA created lake and the club just had their first of four races for the fall series. Winds were light at 1-3 knots and many of the boats were larger than ours. We had a terrible start and found ourselves towards the back of the pack as they headed for the North shore. We tacked to break away and get out of their shadow. After that we just sailed our own race. We hit the first mark well ahead of the rest, at least by 30 minutes. We round the mark and set up the spinnaker and it lays there. The wind died!
Race was called and is scheduled for this weekend ... more to follow!
Geoff hang in there in the really light breath air the Capri is in it's element... get crew to middle and leeward to induce a bit of heel, and hold real still, if you trim it up for the puffs (whatever they might be), you'll move!
Flat spinnaker you say? been there! We call them "bob and bake."
Well, the Fall Series is over and out of the four races we place (in this order): Third, Second, First and First. Took the series and took the title! Had a blast. Last race we were 25 minutes ahead of the rest of the pack and the J24 was amongst them. After the windward mark the wind slowed but we managed to get the spinnaker up and float away. Great day!
WAY TO GO! I am jealous, best I could get was 2nd for our series of 8... but we steadily improved all year, so next year we'll know where to start from. My crew signed up for another season with me for next year, and I'm planning a few more "tweaks" to get us on the podium more.
Just talked it over with the wife, 1 sail to be ordered, a reaching symmetrical spinnaker... BRING ON THE REACH-FEST... drag races, here we come! epsails will be my first call!
