Anyone replaced their jib furling 'reef' line? Mine packed it in the other day and I was wondering if anyone has replaced one? Book indicates 3/16 inch but mine came with 1/4 inch. 3/16 seems too small for me. Any idea of the capacity (load) requirement?
As long as your drum has capacity to take it with your sail rolled out, I don't see any issue with that and I'd go with 1/4. Handling thin line with bare hands is a different issue, but 3/16th should be enough (that's what I have on my furler).
Agree to go with the largest that can fit on the drum. I have found that the the smallest diameter lines are harder on the hands (even if wearing gloves) and the line rarely but can tend to get tangled occasionally on the drum when using the smallest lines. What you can do if you are hesitiant to go with 1/4" but want something greater than 3/16" is to go with those lines specified in mm and slightly greater than 3/16". That may work for you. I forget what mm that is but you can easily make the conversion typing the conversion question into Yahoo or Google.

Go with what fits and feels OK. If 1/4" worked for your sail (the larger the sail, the longer the line must be), I'd stick with that.
I believe my line is bigger than 1/4 inch. I had to message the end to get it through the small attachment hole and the drum. All my line fits on the drum with a 135 fully out. 1/4 inch will work IMO.
