Anyone having issues with play in the rudder pintels / gudgeons? This issue is not noticeable when sailing as much as when at anchor. At anchor I turn the wheel to one side and use a bungee cord to hold the rudder over else you get a lot of 'clunking' noise.

I have looked at the replacements @ Catalina direct and I like the Delrin bushing but cannot remember how many 'holes' there are in the original.

Any advice?

I have play in my rudder also, I ordered new gudgeons with the bushing from CD and plan to install when I haul out next week. CD told me they are a direct replacement for the original Catalina gudgeons. There are 3 holes in both the original and CD replacement.

Are you replacing the Pintels as well?

Thanks,

Don

If you have wheel steering... I found a bit of slop due to the sloppy fit of the rudder arm into the rudder arm receptacle on the Rudder. I plan to put a piece of Sugru between the rudder arm and the rudder receiver.

Have just finished installing Arlyn's steering upgrade, that has cut the slop at the arm from 1.5" either side of helm to less than 1/2" total but I think when the arm/rudder slop is taken out that will be even more.

I just replaced mine a few weeks ago. My lower gudgeon was missing the welded on flange that hold the pintle which produced a 1/4" slop and was very annoying at anchor while trying to sleep. Ordered the three hole ones from CD upper and lower. Rudder feels and sounds, or no sound, much better. Link from my thread http://www.catalina-capri-25s.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=27261

Don, I didn't order new pintles, I'll wait to see if there is any slop with the new gudgeons. If so then I'll replace the pintles also.
