Whew! For a moment I thought you were reporting that the next America's Cup would be in Annapolis... the capital of the Summer Doldrums!

Of course, I'd love to see it back in Newport--within Narragansett Bay, but it would be best if they held off until October. I'll admit--SF Bay is hard to beat for conditions and viewability. We've never seen anything like it.

I just read that Hamilton Island Yacht Club (HIYC) in Australia will be the challenger of record for the next Cup. That club is home to a winemaker named Oakly, who owns and campaigns the very successful ocean racer named Wild Oats.

Yup--this little guy, shown on her way to winning the 2010 Sydney-Hobart. Friends were also in the race--far behind Oats.



It was a "sporting" race!
