How many of you spend time on your boats while on the hard? Since hauling out 2 weeks ago, I find that I still go down for some peaceful private time down in the cabin. Usually I'll do some seasonal chores (today I removed the rudder and rebedded the gudgeons), but I also usually take my work computer and try to get some stuff done on it while I'm alone. It's so peaceful. My wife calls it my "man cave."
When Take Five is in the water I'll rarely do this, because we will always head out sailing rather than sit at the dock. But this time of the year, I enjoy hooking up the electric, turning on the heater, doing my chores outside, then heading into the cabin for some warm private time.
Next weekend I'll probably drop the mast, and hanging out will be less enjoyable because the boom, bimini frame, etc. will be cluttering up the cabin.

I know what you mean. I can always find a reason to hang out in the boat, whether it's in the water or on the trailer. I'm fortunate to have a large barn for storage, so I have access to my boat whenever I want, and there are always projects to take me there. It's a peaceful, comforting place to be. We've kept a boat log for years, and it's nice sometimes to just read through past entries and remember those days.
Well in the winter the boat is covered and kind of hard to get in. But in the winter I often go down to the marina and look out on the lake and remember warmer days and look for the warmer days.
I rather dislike being aboard while on the hard - BECAUSE IT'S HARD! I miss the rolling, rocking, swaying of floating too much to enjoy being aboard...
I'm in total agreement - my man cave also comes with a small stove to boil my coffee pot, and also warm the cabin. I can always find something to clean, fix or update. A few hours of puttering around and my head is clear - a whole week's horse-s#!+ goes right out the window...
