Have #411, boat will stay at home, but well be in Sarasota Fl. area for some of the winter, does any one in that area need a crew, or would like to show a 60+ year and his wife the area? Were staying in Golf Gates. ( Now that I re-read that, I'm not sure if I would even answer this } But then again, You could look at my profile. Dave B.
Hi Dave, sorry I missed your post somehow. (I can blame it on my wife! She reads the forum too, and posts get marked as Read!)
I'm not aware of any boats or owners in the Sarasota area, we're on the South East Coast near Fort Lauderdale (Search for Joint Decision in the Boat Search Feature, it has a link to our favorite sailing venue.)
We wouldn't have been much help however, we have been traveling up to Loxahatchee every few days to help our new Grandaughter's Mom & Dad (at least that's our excuse! )
And then you post about Nebraska! Wow! It must be cool to be able to sail with sister boats!
Like Paul. I can't think of any members sailing regularly in the Sarasota area. Ask at the marinas when and where the racers sail from, and walk the docks and ask if anyone needs crew. Some clubs have bulletin boards where you can post a note indicating your interest in being race crew. Racers often have someone not show up or who are late because of traffic, and need crew.
I'm not exactly in Sarasota, but probably closer than anyone else. On the eastern shore of Tampa Bay in Apollo Beach. Other than staying at Marina Jack a few times, I don't really visit Sarasota that often, so can't be of too much help there. But, if you are in my area let me know.

I am a new 250 owner and new member in the Sarasota area. Would be happy to take you and your wife for a sail on Sarasota Bay. Question--have you ever had problems with ballast water coming into your 250 WB? A friend and I took the boat to St Pete recently and had the normal dry boat sailing downwind to St Pete. Coming back sailing hard into the wind and a chop, took on a lot of water. Bailed a lot and then less and less for several days. Boat dry now but dirty from dirty water. Won't be sailing it until we figure it out and fix whatever the problem is. I would appreciate hearing your experience.
Paula, I have a wing keel. The only time I've ever had water in the Catalina, Was with a full Water tank, and sailing on Stb tack in heavy winds for a long time. In the head, the hand pump for the sink was bad, and water drained out of it, onto the head floor. ( with the angle of the boat, the water tank was higher than the pump.) It bugged the heck out of me, where did this water come from ?? One day a friend was sailing the boat, and I had to use the head,----well wile standing there, what do I see !! Water coming out of that pump. Now the tank is drained, and we use bottle water. I also checked the hose that drained the sink to the outside, it was loose, but not to the point that water was coming in. So that's my 2 cents worth. I,m willing to help you check a few things out, and talk about what we've done to ours. If you wish, click my name, and go to my profile and you'll find my E Mail Add. we'll be in Sarasota for a few month's.
