My swing is not going down the whole way until a few miles on the water. I took a mirror and looked up the cable trunk. There seems to be a fiber pulley that is worn through to the bolt holding it in place. The cable must hang up on the worn pulley. Can't seem to find the bolt holding the pulley in place. Has anyone had any experience with this problem? This is a 1978 Hull# 235 Steve
The turning ball is metal ... bronze, I think. It is held in place by a stainless steel pin that goes through the center. The ends of the pin in your boat are probably covered up with fiberglass ... mine were ... I had to file down the fiberglass to get to the ends of the pin. After you remove the fiberglass, the pin just punches out and the ball falls free. Here is what the ball & pin look like:
'Sounds like your boat is past due on a cable change, too. Replacing the cable and the turning ball isn't hard, but you'll have to have the boat out of the water ... I did mine while it was on the trailer.
Catalina Direct sells a cable replacement kit ... their number is 1-800-959-7245
If you've got any more questions, fire away ... good luck!
