I received a free intro copy of BoatUS magazine this month and after flipping through catching an article here and a feature there it seems a little like a cross between Sail and other power boating mags. I'd classify it as addl bathroom reading… I'm qualified somehow for membership thru the USPowerSquadrons to join at a cutrate price. Does anybody have a membership and is it useful to you?

Yes to both. Your USPS discount is probably bigger than the one from here, but it isn't expensive anyway. The website provides useful information and easy MMSI registration. The organization itself supports a lot of very good boating/water related causes and is very active in working with state and federal governments to protect and promote boating and to keep boaters informed of impending government actions. I added Trailering Club for a few bucks.
BoatUS is sort of like the AAA for boaters. You can join BoatUS for $24. per year. If you're a member of some boating organizations, you can join at a discount rate. I think members of this Association get a discount.
The BoatUS website lists the following benefits of membership:
*24/7 Towing Dispatch to over 600 towboats in 300+ ports nationwide *Roadside Assistance while trailering your boat *Discounts on fuel, transient slips, repairs and more at 1,000+ boating businesses *6 Issues of the award-winning BoatUS Magazine *Access to Boat Insurance from dedicated experts *The boater’s advocate--from local issues to Capitol Hill *Highest level of shopping rewards at West Marine *Travel discounts from Star Clippers, The Moorings and more
I usually join each year, and the benefits usually are enough to recoup the membership fee. The magazine is keyed to both power and sail, but it's "free" with membership and there are occasional articles of interest, but I wouldn't subscribe for the magazine alone.
Given the amount of gas I buy each year now, that discount alone almost pays for my membership. I've added a TowBoatUS contract to that, for peace of mind. I find the magazine and occasional e-mail "dispatches" useful. The "rules" quiz in each magazine is a periodic reminder of how much I forget...
I am a member of BoatUS through West Marine and in the membership includes TowBoat coverage. Overall, it is a good deal. Interestingly when I was a kid I was a charter member of BoatUS in 1968.

Quote from the members discounts area;
<b>"The 2012 Annual Membership dues are $30.00 (regularly and $24.00 on-line). Using the group discount code the Annual Membership dues are $15.00."</b>
There are other discounts available with membership. Another good reason to join and support the association.</font id="navy"></font id="size2"></font id="Comic Sans MS">
