I need some education please regarding roller furling systems. My head sail is a 130 hanked on. Can this be cut down to fit a roller furling system or do I have a sail for sale also I was under the assumption that a roller furling head sale is designed to and intended to be adjustable for prevailing wind conditions and not just for easy sail storage ie all the way in or out. Pros and cons regarding the CDI roller furling system.
We put a CDI -FF-4 with ball bearing upgrade roller furler on Chariots of Fire. It has a 135 jib with it. We looked into converting the hank on but opted to go with new. The CDI works great.
I 130 is a reasonable sail to get converted to a furling sail. A 150 has a maximum pocket for light air and as such rolls up poorly resulting in bad intermediate shapes. A 130 is a flatter sail and should roll up reasonably well, I have had sails converted several times and it was cheap. You can choose to leave the leech without a sun shield and it will help with the sail shape and then use a sock for storage.
