First we had unbelievable cold temps this winter and ice settled into the river and the Marina even though there are many flow agitators keeping water flowing between the main docks. Unfortunately, the agitators were not so close to my boat amongst about 7 others. This was first time the boats were rock solid in an ice slab. I told them to next time put one of those flow things closer to our boats but they tend to put them where it is easiest, where there are no boats ! Then some warm temps and the boats were free, though, there was still about an 80 foot hard ice slab between the C and D Main docks. Anyway, I checked out my boat and there appeared to be no damage and bilge was bone dry. The past several days there has been a gradual warming trend, though, temps at night were still getting down to freezing except for the past 2 nights. Last Sunday, the ice slab was still there but as of yesterday, when temps hit in the mid-50s, the slab was gone !
Today. I left the office early, temps were in low 50s and I was sailing by 1pm. Outboard started up fine and I was out for a couple of hours max but good to get back in th groove. Tomorrow it's going to rain. I believe Saturday, it is going to be a nice day with warm temps again, so I may get out again. Then the temps take a nose dive to start the new week but no real low temps like we had for about a month.
I know it is still too early to consider the winter over but I am optimistic there will be increasingly good days to go out sailing again ! Not long before it's time to take care of the exterior maintenance - Cetol on the wood, Polyglow on the hull, oil change for the outboard and then get the bottom multi-season ablative, pressure washed. I can't believe I am looking forward to the maintenance !!

Good for you that you got out. Thursday was a welcome relief. Saturday looks good too.
Went out again today with temps high 50s, maybe it hit 60. Great sail day but heading back was not paying attention as my eye was watching another sailboat out there today and I did not see the 10 ft log until it hit the side of the hullwith a thug. Then as I approached the marina and was going to tuen my outboard on, noticed a cluster of branches stuck around my rudder - No wonder I seem to be going slower the last half hour or so ! Once in the marina, I checked out the side of the hull (and the bilge for water) and no issues. I guess the log hit was just a glancing blow. So, overall a successful day on the river !

I think construction regulations have reduced that greatly over the last 30-40 years, so encounters like that are less frequent now.
Boston hit 55 yesterday before the wind kicked up, then saw kite surfers and frostbiters in Boston Bay in the afternoon. 45-50 here in CT today - gotta go check on Passage. Spring can't be too far away.
Reality check today - Another fine day but did not go sailing. I replaced the belts on my snowblower. Two of the three belts snapped just as I dug out our driveway from the 12" snow, 2 weeks ago. Temps heading back to the 20s and 30s by mid-week with a few snowflakes predicted on Wednesday.
