I managed to get a "new" old outboard (Honda 9.9). It does not have any zincs on it. I will be using it in salt water and need to know what I need in the way of zincs. West Marine sells six different zincs for Honda outboards, do I need to buy all of them? Do I even need them?
Also, I ordered Garhauer's redesigned motor mount and am planning on installing it as soon as I receive it.

My Honda 10 has pre-drilled holes on the anti-cavitation plate for one small zinc. This is probably enough for average day and weekend use, but I always make it a point to tilt the motor up out of the water at the end of the weekend. Don't leave the motor down when you go home. Also, if your boat has the older style Cast-iron fin keel, both the keel and the keel bolts will be subject to salt water corrosion. Make sure you keep an eye on both, and if the bolts start to rust badly, replace them periodically. If your boat is one of the newer models, the keel is a fiberglass molding weighted with lead in the bottom, and the keel bolts are stainless steel, I think. I don't know what model year the fiberglass keel started, though. Somewhere around 1984~1986 I think, but better check your boat to be sure. A guy in San Diego just purchased a fin keel C-25 in Long Beach and the surveyor found the tops of the keel bolts and nuts has virtually dissolved to rust-powder. There are some postings about it in this forum.
