I often recommend Ullman Sails of Ventura AKA Gary Swenson. He has provided sails to Catalina Yachts and Catalina Direct. I just received my new main for my Starwind 223; SA 158'. P 25 E 10.75. I thought I would share photos of the construction a buyer can expect from Gary. His sails work well for me. This is a Photo link to the album, once in the album click on a slide to see a full res shot. I apologize for the iPhone quality.
I hope these photos will cause a discussion about the way sailmakers do various things.
Frank turned us on to Ullman Ventura and we're very pleased with the quality and performance of the sails. Would buy from Gary again without hesitation.
It allows the luff to fall away from the gooseneck rather than pile up un it. That allows the reef tack to be hardened against the gooseneck rather than simply smashing down on your sail luff.
Here you can see the luff below the boom when reefed.
Anyone know what the second knot is for on the headsail sheets?

With the second knot you always have a straight line pull/Equal pull on both lines from the knot up to the cow hitch preventing the cow hitch from slipping. How did I do?
