All -- this past weekend, the 30-year-old jib on my C-25 SK/TR finally gave up. It had been enduring much as I've been trying to improve my skills. So I need a replacement, and was wondering if members could share experiences buying used sails: who's good and who's not. Also, is there a good use for this tattered old sail? Many thanks in advance, -Michael

I have had great luck buying good used sails and sending them to SailCare ( www.sailcare.com ) for refurbishing. You need to get a good price on the used sail and then count on $150-$200 to have it refurbished and repaired at Sailcare. It will look like a new sail when you get it back.

Two friends have used SailCare and both sails came back ruined and worthless. They claim they will not service a sail that is too far gone but they failed to use that discretion for my friends.
Does anyone know the best place in Annapolis to have a sail serviced? We've got a lot of places in town and I'm sure some are better than others. Also, I would always be happy to help someone with services here in Annapolis. Whether that is shipping stuff here for service or checking the local shops for parts, let me know.

I'm guessing that something in their procsses of drying the sail in dryers affects the glue on the UV strip. Maybe the heat from the dryers? Anyway this puckering was the result.
I've debated sending my antique 130 Genoa to them, for a new leech line (as that's really all that's wrong with it), and a refresh... It's my practice sail, but with no leech line, it flops like mad. I use a good laminate 135 for when I want to get serious, but when I want a sail I can stuff quickly, that antique comes out.

We have sent sails to SailCare before and they did an awesome job. Was getting ready to send them the sails from our C-25 but that photo scares me a little.
I have sent sails to Sail Care (C-22 and C-25) with very favorable results, C-25 main twice and jib once, but I have read several posts that their process is not friendly to UV covers on furling sails. I would NOT send a furling sail to them unless you wanted them to replace the UV cover as part of the refurbishing job. On my C-22 main, years ago, they called me and said it was too far gone to refurbish (as I suspected), so I told them to trash it and bought a new main. Thanks, Gary -- my old jib was a 150 Genoa, sized for a tall rig, and I'd like to go to a 135. For the variability in the winds that we have up here, I think I need to size this one appropriately. Thanks for the inquiry, though.
