Just purchased the kit from Catalina Direct. I wasn't going to buy theirs, mostly because it's about $70 more than the same kit can be purchased elsewhere. I am very glad I went with the CD model...

The kit came with 2 other things from CD than the standard kicker... One was a very inexpensive set of starboard shims (that sit either side of the tongue/lip at the bottom of the boom).... the other thing that came with it was a boom ROLL STOP.

The Kicker install is quite straight forward. You slide a slug under your fixed goose, and down the luff groove to the bottom. Screw the bracket holder in...

Next you install another slug in the luff groove this for the roll-stop bracket.

you mount the bracket first to the boom, then attach the bolt through the slug in the luff groove.

Like was said on the CD website, the fiberglass rods have to be shortened (about 1-2 inches) to prevent excessive upward force.

Here's the slide on the bottom:

Here's the bolts you must thread into the lip on the boom you'll see the starboard pieces wedged in as well, that are held in ONLY by pressure:

Here's the whole thing before I shortened the rods...

John, I installed a boomkicker a year or so ago, works great!

One thing to be wary of is the securing of the roll stop arms to the boom.

The original screws that held the spar to the spar end casting were too short to hold the roll stop arms in place. I used longer screws.

The longer screws snagged the out haul where it exited the spar by the mast.

Dremmel to the rescue to remove the 'point' from the screw.

Paul good tip! Yeah I had to use a slightly longer screw to hold it as well, but then my original screws weren't original either, they were slightly bigger. Time will tell. I just did an upgrade to the 8:1 outhaul... I think 6:1 would have been better, but that's another story. Still working after my boomkicker upgrade.

Scott, the boat is for sale for sure, but like I've said all along, I'll continue to upgrade/improve it while it's up for sale. I'm still racing this year, and I'll race what I have...

Real bummer too, my tiller pilot started to "lock" on a specific heading... I picked up the TP and it rattled (oh no)... I have it apart on my desk now, as I am quite sure it's a "wear part" not a warranty thing... sure enough, the bracket that holds the "fluxgate compass" has busted. DARN... looked up on EBAY... parts $93 from the UK, another $14 to ship to the good ole USA... I have an email into Raymarine (since they aren't answering their tiller pilot Tech support line).

That ST1000+ is a KILLER tiller pilot... I've pulled out the fluxgate compass, and now it's a TILLER HOLDER (HA!)... at least until I can properly fix it.
