As I inch closer to my first sail on my 1986 C25 TM/FK #5155 I have a couple more things on my "to do list"...I need to replace some gasketing. My anchor locker and some cockpit gaskets (Dumpster/Fuel Tank Hatches). My question is can I get this from a auto parts store and save some money? If so what size and what adhesive should I get? I am battling some rain water intrusion...

Hi Chuck T -

The anchor locker shouldn't be a problem because it has a drain through the bow. Check it, it may be clogged. If it is working and you are still getting water in the V-berth, possibly the floor of the locker is cracked. This can be fixed with some fiberglass cloth and resin. As for the dumpster and fuel lockers, mine have a lip to prevent leakage and drain into the cockpit. Just my $.02.

I have a gasket on the dumpster, but I don't know the size. It is probably about 1/2" round and presses over the edge of the locker so it doesn't need adhesive. The fuel locker doesn't have an edge to slip a gasket over. It doesn't really need one

The gaskets are 5/8" thick by 3/4" wide. Catalina Direct sells it by the roll. I have used the stuff from the hardware store but never been able to find anything that holds up well.

Thanks everyone for the replies. It is a nice feeling to hear from folks who have "been there"...I am glad I joined this association!
My anchor locker does not have a drain (looks like PO closed it up). Floor is cracked some and water fills up every rain. I will figure out how to get this to drain again and also put down the cloth mentioned. Thanks Again.

Hi Chuck... You need the drain in the anchor locker--it is not designed to shed water from the deck the way the dumpster does with its molded-in gutter. A gasket will prevent massive intrusions of green water when you bury the bow, but probably not rain seepage. There's also the water that will collect when you put the wet rode in there.

People have discussed increasing the size of their drains to reduce clogging, and also sealing around the top, under the deck, to prevent leaks into the v-berth when the drain does clog. Use the Search function above, looking for "anchor locker" in the C-25 Forum.

I think the gasket on the anchor locker is more of a cushion so dropping the lid does not cause damage. The large hole at the bow end of the cover molded in the deck for the anchor rode ensures the anchor locker is not intended to be water tight.

Anchor locker drain project--- easy peasy.

1" hole saw like you use to set a strike plate in a door lock in a house. 1" brass nipple from plumbing section of hardware store. Epoxy putty. Pipe wrench.

Drill small pilot hole to locate at forward low point of the locker, a good hole saw bit will also have a pilot bit at the center which allows the hole saw to follow your pilot hole. Use the wrench and thread the brass nipple in from the outside, when a short stub is visible in the locker build up around the nipple with the epoxy putty so the water finds the nipple stub as the low point.

Easy Peasy is what I wanted to hear. Thanks for the pictures and input. I feel confident that this is the source of "most of my rainwater issues...
