After 18 months in storage, we finally launched Karma last Tuesday. I have always stored my Tohatsu 9.8 upright on a stand and transported it laying down on the throttle control just as the owners manual and diagrams say. The motor wouldn't start and in reading some message boards, I found out that oil will flow into the cylinders if you follow the transporting instructions.

Has anyone else had this experience?

I had a lot of trouble with a Merc 5hp, model year 2002, with oil getting into the cylinder after transporting it to the lake. I swore that I put it down on the correct side, shop claimed otherwise. Pull the spark plug and cycle the engine with the start rope, throttle off, several times to clear the cylinder. clean off plug and reinstall. Engine should start. May smoke a bit at first. Run until the smoke clears up and runs smoothly. Let it cool a bit and recheck oil level.
