Were the rudders for the Catalina 25's the same throughout the years? I have an 1980 hull, but I've got a chance to buy a rudder off of a 95 model. Think it will fitwork?
That would probably be a Catalina C-250, which went into full production that year. C-25 production ceased in 1991. The only change in the C-25 rudder happened in 1989, when the transom was changed and the rudder was modified to be "balanced." (A fraction of its surface projected forward of the pivot line.) Many of us upgraded our older boats to that rudder--like upgrading a truck to power steering.
While the C-250 rudder might be made to work, it wasn't made for the purpose. And there were several "generations" of rudders on the C-250 as Catalina tried to remedy some handling problems--notably "rounding up." If the '95 rudder is original to the boat, it's one that didn't work that well on that boat, which has a different hull shape from the C-25.
