I still haven't received my new sail yet, so I have been just motoring out into Lake Washington on the weekends for entertainment. This last weekend, I spliced some scrap line and attached it to a halyard for a rope swing. One of my friends was swinging on it with no visible strain to the mast. I curious though, how much weight could the mast take? He's only 140lbs and I didn't want my 200 to test its limits.
Swinging out 200lbs shouldn't be an issue honestly. The boat would just heel over anyway. There is significantly more pressure than that on it in a blow. But then its also more even pressure. I wouldn't make a habit of it, but it really shouldn't hurt. Bowsun's chair up a 25 footer has been done. I watched a couple guys do a chair up a 22 foot catalina last year (not my idea of fun mind you).
You get extra points if you can drag the boat past 25 degrees of heel though.
