Plan is to trail JD down to the Marina on Wednesday Night (unless it's raining heavy) and get a lot of the prep done in the cool after dark for a launch at crackodawn Thursday.
We'll be flying the USA flag up top, the Brit flag below that and the Association Burgee at the spreaders. Plus a few others for decoration.
I'll celebrate with Hot Dogs for dinner and a Rum at Sunset.
Plan is to get some great sailing, practice heaving too, COB, and sailing from the anchor (unless there are too many boats nearby).
We'll post pics when we get back on Sunday afternoon.
Will you guys be on the water and under the flag over the weekend?
I fly the colors up at the top of the backstay and the USPS burgee on the transom mount. Our fireworks will be on Thursday night in the Housatonic River, and New Haven's will be on Friday night. Paul, any further word on the development of the tropical activity off the east coast?
We're keeping close eye on the weather here. Last night, Sailflow showed most of the effects would be offshore. Winds from the West Wednesday night-Thursday morning, not much bay to kick up, but no shelter from westerly winds.
Our plan, as always, is to get everything ready to tow and make a go/no go decision an hour from departure from the house. It takes a good bit of work to get JD into the water (90min drive to the marina!) So we're sensible, there's always another weekend.
Right now, forecast is winds from the East/SouthEast backing to the west over the weekend. Mostly in the low teens, a little cloudy with chance of rain on Wednesday night but then patchy sun/cloud over the rest of the weekend, mostly bright.
The 'tropical' activity off the coast does not seem to be an issue for us... and we hope it stays that way!

Considering it, but the night time temps here have been in the 80's. Are you running a generator for A/C? If so, does it bother other's anchored out near you? Or is everyone running gen-sets?
Stripped the sails and canvas off today. Making preps for the blow, expected to hit near me Friday morning. Undecided if I should double up the lines or anchor out. Going to wait and see the track Wednesday before I decide.
The admiral and I will be out on the Chesapeake on Independence Day to watch the dozens of fireworks along many of the waterfront properties and nearby towns.
I have plans to sail with my friend in his 1980 C-25 SR/SK from the Narragansett Bay to Block Island this Sunday and Monday, for a few days, and I expect Arthur to have blown past on Saturday, with just a few 10-15 foot swells remaining on Monday when we expect to cross Block Island Sound. It should be very interesting out on the ocean after the category 1 hurricane! If conditions make the trip out of the question, then it will be a Potters Cove celebration. I feel so lucky to have these kinds of problems!!!
We will be out on the water in the afternoon. Will have dinner on the boat (fresh boiled shrimp, corn bread and wine) then watch the fireworks. I May spend the night on the boat. (Admiral & dog will probably not spend the night) Sorry about you guys on the east coast. I hope all goes OK for you.

Not looking to good for you Tom. Looks like it is going right over or very close to you. Hope every thing works out.
Yep, it did not turn to the east as much as they thought. Looks like I'm in the path again. I'm committed at this point, I have triple lines and lots of fenders out. I did get the Sisu pulled out. The good news is, we're looking at about a 5 foot surge and not 12 like we has with Irene. It's going to be a long night.
Im planning to double my lines and wrap the jib on the furler with a lasso wrap. Way I hear it, in Long Island Sound, we might get some rain bands at most. NC Capes are a whole 'nother story. Take great care my friends!!! God's speed.
Weather was rainy, dark and cool here on the 4th so we did our family picnic indoors, not at the marina. Eastern Carolina bore the brunt of the storm, but Montauk, Block Is, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket and Cape Cod took a hit with wind-driven rain. The wash-over rains from Arthur nailed the SE Mass mainland with heavy flooding. Today, however, is sunny, dry and temperate in CT. Should be a nice week.
Got to spend the day sailing. The admiral joined me at 5:00 and we had diner on the boat at anchor. We were joined by some sailing friends in their boat, rafted up. Was a great night. After fireworks hit the dock about 11:30.
