WELCOME ABOARD
You will be sailing on a 1988 Catalina 25, standard rig, swing keel

Please wear deck shoes while onboard. Street shoes will mar the decks and cockpit.
Do you know how to swim?
Life vests are stowed under the port ( left ) rear dinette seat cushion.
Are you prone to motion sickness?
Are you required to take any medications during the time we are out sailing?
Do you have those medications with you?
Drinking water and snacks you enjoy can insure you have an enjoyable sail.
Children must wear PFD's whenever on board.

Bring appropriate clothing for weather conditions:
Hot weather:
Sun hat
Dark glasses
Sun block / lip balm
White, loose fitting cloths. Shorts Swim suit.
Deck Shoes
Cold weather:
Layering type clothing of wool or fleece.
Wind proof coat
Warm hat that covers the ears
Gloves, 2 pair
Socks, 2 pair
Thermos of hot chocolate
Warm, non-marring deck shoes

These items stow well in a soft "duffel" carry on bag.

Make yourself familiar with fire extinguisher locations, first aid kit location, life preserver location, flares, fog horn, flash lights, rubber dinghy, cell phone / radio, tool kit, marine head operation ( ships toilet paper only down head).
Inform friends on shore of your float plan. When you are leaving and when you expect to return.
Remain on board for crew duties after arriving back in the slip. Secure and clean boat as necessary.

Being familiar with nautical terminology may be helpful. Please refer to back of this sheet.

Please sign the ships log before leaving.

On Calista the only sign other than mandatory ones is the sign on the transom ,PIS TU CELA. Indicating, that while I'll enjoy your company sailing, I don't do potties.

Here is ours

Flying Wasp
Rules and Regs

The owners are always right.

If the owners are wrong see the first rule.

If you have any questions regarding the safety equipment, its use or its location, please ask.

Life jackets are available and must be worn by all after sunset or when the Lake temperature is below 60 degrees. They are stowed under the table on the port (left) side of the boat. The bag containing them is always brought out and placed on the port settee while underway. The captain may request that you wear them on other occasions; such a request is not optional. If for any reason you are questioning whether you might need a life jacket, please ask for one because you probably should have one on.

Club rules mandate that All children under the age of 14 must have a life jacket while on the docks, the catwalks, the boat or while walking the bulkheads.

If you bring children to our boat, our club mandates that they be under your supervision at all times.

The lid to the icebox must remain closed unless you are stocking it or retrieving something from it.

The Newbies bring and serve the Beer.

While underway, if you can’t hang it over the side, then please sit down on the head. Aim underway while the boat is healed is usually less than an Army Sharpshooter.

If you do hang it over the side make sure its to leeward. (just trust us)

Nothing other than human waste and the toilet paper that is provided goes in the head. Anything more might stop up the pipes and there are no plumbers at sea.

The Captain reserves the right to make you sit in the cabin if conditions warrant.

The newbies bring and serve the beer!

If you don’t know how to flush the head, please ask.

The sink is not a sink, it is a storage compartment for keys, instrument covers, wallets and the keel winch handle, please do not use it in any other capacity.

If it isn’t broken and your name isn’t Dennis Connor, please don’t fix it. If you think it’s broken, please point it out.

We will be more than happy to teach you anything we know about sailing, don’t be afraid to ask.

Soft soled shoes only please.

Unless an exemption is received prior to departing the dock we would prefer that all guests help clean up!

Any and all beer brought on board by said guests that are not consumed becomes the property of the boat and its owners.

Anyone who pukes due to see sickness or other ailments must do so to leeward, (note: same as tenth rule)

The fire extinguishers are located behind the cabin steps and in the head (bathroom).

There is a first aid kit located in the head (bathroom)

Please dress for the weather, put any extras you may need in a small duffel bag to bring on board. Loose items on a sailboat do not bode well.

The ships radio is located at the bottom of the stairs to the right, there is also a hand held radio on the port side rail in the cabin. The US Coast guard and governmental agencies monitor channel 9...

[*] There is an emergency kit located under the starboard settee.

[*] Thank you for coming and enjoy your time on the Flying Wasp.

Marking which channel to use in an emergency on the radio is a good idea -- last year here at the lake, a man fell overboard while sailing with his girlfriend. She was trying to raise help on channel 68 -- he spent 4 hours in the water.
