Well after multiple people stated how easy it was to set up their CD spinnaker crane, I'm feeling a tad stupid to ask the following question!

I am having trouble figuring out how to thread the spinnaker halyard over? under? the crane - resulting in the halyard going over the sheave that guides the halyard down the inside of the mast.

It also seems like I'm going to have to install sheave on the forward most pin like in Lee Panza's drawing?

It also seems like the halyard is going to rub on the inside of the mast truck - by the time it makes its way from the center of the forward most pin down to the port or starboard sheave inside the truck. (I have a tall rig so the upper portion of the truck is narrower).

Thoughts?

I'm not sure that the CD masthead crane was designed for the halyard to run internal to the mast. My set-up has a simple block on the crane and both ends of the halyard reside on the bow pulpit when not in use.

When it's time to raise the spinnaker, simply bring the halyard back to the mast and cleat it off.

You probably can rig it internally, but I haven't done it that way.

ETA: I'm fairly certain that the CD crane will allow the block to swing from one side of the masthead to the other. Making it difficult to get a fairlead to the internal sheave. Just my guess though.....

Hi David and thanks for your reply.

After trying (what I think) are all the possible routes - I suspect you are correct.

I will be speaking with CD this p.m. to confirm. It certainly isn't discussed in the product description .

May be time to dust off the drawing board.

Confirmed that the Spinnaker Crane from CD is not intended for an internal halyard.

It's more about the design of the mast truck than the crane.

I suggested they put this in the comments section for the product . . . we'll see!
