Just wanted to say hello and then I'm happy to have finally become a member of this association. A little over a year ago, I purchased my first boat - a 1987 cat 25 WK SR in Lawrence, KS while she was in dry storage.
About two months ago, after months of research and refitting, Meadowlark was finally ready to do what she was made to do: Cross the Gulf Stream and sail the shallow waters of the Bahamas. I have been living aboard full time for 2 months or so, and I plan to continue for about one year.
Much thanks is due to those who keep this association running smoothly and those who contribute in forums. Over the last year, I have been on here EVERY DAY learning all I can. It has allowed me to tackle major projects, save thousands of dollars, and memorize every nook and cranny of this boat.
I'd like to give back a little, share some of what I have learned, and I hope to post to forums often (when I have a solid internet connection). Thanks again!
Welcome aboard! You're certainly off to a great start. I suspect you'll be hearing from the Mainsheet editor soon. Your adventure begs to be a feature article.
Currently in Marsh Harbour refilling propane and doing some minor provisioning. Spent a few days at treasure last month...not very many beaches that pristine in the entire world. I'll definitely be going back.
Anyhoo.... sorry to sound like a curmudgeonn but something I didn't figure out for about a year and could have bit me hand off...
The pop top slide that secures the top in place can get loose easily with movement of the boat/mast, and then it drops. ( and you might not notice it has dropped. )
The top could come down. My solution is a line to snap together as a backup. ( hmmm.. I think I'm gonna do a redesign on that line )

You are correct about the beaches! I've always wanted to go back to Treasure Key and the Tipsy Seagull.
Made it to Nassau a few years back on a company sponsored cruise ship but it was nothing like Treasure.
Post some pictures of your journey when you get a chance. We love pictures on this site.

Martin, I had what Ray describes happen to me. It hurts a lot when the pop-top lands on your head. I have been using Ray's solution ever since.
