It is with much sadness to report that I have sold PiSeasII. As such, according to the by laws in which ownership is required to hold office, I am not able to continue as an officer. I will stay on till end of this term. I will do my best to assist in the transition for the new treasurer. It has been my pleasure to serve and to be a member of this organization. The new owners of PiSeasII, has recently joined w/o much coaxing on my part. One only has to share the value of our Association and wealth of information members of the forum offer. I know you all will not let me down in that matter. Please welcome owners Lewis and Lisa of Mission Bay, San Diego. I have told them this is the best group hands down, sailing or otherwise. I will be moving on but hope to continue in some small way with sailing. I will miss boat ownership as PiSeasI and II has been a very big part of my life the last 20 years and this will certainly leave a very large hole in my heart. I will always have a love for sailing and being on the ocean. The saying the happiest 2 days for a boater are buying and selling your boat. This is certainly not true for me. How can someone be glad to give up something that holds so many fond memories. Sailing has never wronged me or left me with any scars, physically or emotionally. I have always returned back home safe and not been stranded where I should not be. I have always been given a gift each time I went out. If you treat her right, you will get 1000 times more back in love. I will always cherish those memories. I have never taken sailing for granted and have great respect for the ocean. Please think of me next time you are out and how lucky you truly are. I wish all of you and this Association well. Steve Auerbach, fellow sailor for ever.....
Best to you Steve in your coming adventures and thanks for your help and contributions to the Association over the years. I had the pleasure to attend a wedding in Newport many years ago....beautiful area.
Thanks to all for your kind words. PiSeasII sailed out of her slip yesterday on a 2 day voyage for Mission Bay, San Diego. I waived off to new owner Lewis and crew son in law Jeff as they headed to first leg Oceanside, about 40 miles from Newport. They made it in about 8 hours and Lewis reported to me he loved "his" new boat. That pleased me immensely but also saddened me knowing she was no longer "mine". Lewis's wife Lisa, both are new members to this Association, and her daughter Brooke, drove down back down to Oceanside after dropping the guys off in Newport. I know they will both take very good care of her. They are planning to rename as ChelSea, after one of their dogs. I reminded them of the proper way to do that as to ensure favor of the sea gods. I don't see owning another boat in the cards but never say never. I will be joining a senior sailing association which has a 32' hunter and 34' Catalina. The cost is about $200 per year plus $18 each time you go out. (That is a far cry from the $7000+ a year I was paying for a slip and was one of the prime reasons I reluctantly sold her.) One can become a certified first mate or skipper with this group and take others out for a sail. It will have been an amazing 9 years being a part of this Association but it is time to move on. I plan to let my membership expire on 3-15 and will miss all this group had to offer. I got so much out of it as I am sure you all can attest to as well. It is my hope that one of you step up as an officer. A new VC and my position as Treasurer, is vitally needed as well as others. Russ and Paul can not do it alone. Treasurer is not as difficult as it may sound. I have outlined the majority of duties for the person who takes over. It requires about 1-2 hours a month. You write checks, do a monthly financial report and transfer monies between Paypal to our bank account. You will also update the membership once a member renews or joins. Finally, you will send out a burgee to those who make a purchase. These are the major components and a few minor ones. I will be happy to assist in this transition. This Association is only viable with member support and involvement. You volunteerism is a critical part of that whether it be as an officer or staff member such as an editor. I implore you to seriously consider one of these positions. This organization can not run itself. It needs members who really care and want Catalina 25 to continue on. This describes any one of our members. It is time to give back rather than just take. This is why I decided earlier on to become involved. I have not one regret. It has made my life richer and much more fulfilling and gratifying. So please consider my last request. My voice will now become silent. Ahoy Mates....
Steve, from my viewpoint over the past few years, your involvement, commitment and dedication to the task of Treasurer has been very much appreciated. We have discussed so many issues about the website, membership, and the processes to keep it all going and that certainly made my work much easier.
If ever you are tempted to visit Florida, give Peggy & I a bit of notice and I'm sure we can get you out on the Florida Waters aboard JD.
Thanks so much for your service to the Association!
And thanks for the chance to sail with you on Piseas II on three different occasions when I was in the LA area on business. I will cherish my memories of that trip to Catalina when you and I landed in Avalon harbor the same evening as the museum's wine and cheese reception for the opening of their renovated and expanded space.
You still have an open invitation for gunkholing on the Chesapeake Bay anytime you come to the DC area. Best wishes for fair winds and calm seas.
