I have sailed so infrequently this year, that I found this past Saturday's afternoon sail absolutely spectacular! Winds out of the east made for some nice long tacks up and down the Barnegat Bay. I was having such a great time that I decided to give a go at sailing back to my marina (which is about a mile and a half down a long channel.) I bumped the bottom a couple of times on the way in, but solved easily with a few cranks of the keel winch.

My sailing skills are adequate at best and I've always felt like I'm a bit too dependent on my motor. I'm not ashamed to say that I was rather proud of this accomplishment.

Perfect boat weather here in the Ohio Valley yesterday. Got our motor back and tested it by idling around the lake under our new bimini.

End of day at our marina:

Glorious!

There are occasions (very few!) when I envy you guys up North. We raced on Saturday - temp was 100 degrees and the wind was anything from zero to gusts of 20+. A very miserable afternoon - but better than working!

I'm with Derek. July, August & September, I would much rather be up north (normally we are). Last Sunday races brought temperatures of 101 and the last race was a drifter. The PRO finished us in place. Don't you love those rare, near perfect sailing days. Nice job Pat.

This August has featured conditions more akin to Sept. Good winds, low dew points and clear weather. Sailing heeled over to 15° and doing 5+ kts. Being "between jobs" has been a boon, kinda hoping some of my prospects don't come through too quickly or I'll be chained to the desk once again. :(

Or vulture capitalists, depending on which title you own on the term sheet . . .

Spent 2 very nice days at Lake Martin, AL at my sister-in-law's lake house, then to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach for 3 more glorious days at the beach. Absolutely awesome! Glad to be back home. Wife's hip replacement has been postponed from next week to October. She's bummed out about it, so the trip to the beach has been good therapy for her.

We're looking forward to 4 nights on the water over Labor day.

Glad we have our Genny back, we'll need it to keep cool even during the night.

We're hoping to do a 4-day cruise over Labor Day weekend. Friday I'll singlehand down the Delaware, through the canal, and stopover at Bohemia River. Saturday/Sunday we'll cruise as far down in to the Chesapeake as we can (hopefully to Rock Hall), then back. We'll shorten the trip if weather isn't perfect. Then Monday I'll singlehand back from Bohemia River.

This weekend we did a one-night urban cruise up to Philadelphia waterfront and back. We stayed at Penns Landing marina, right in the heart of the city with the historic ships. Saw a free jazz concert last night. A great time!

Although not as exciting as Rick's trip, had a great sail this afternoon. The wet weather we've been stuck with most of July and August finally gave way to normalcy and a good sea breeze kicked in. Only saw one other boat on our part of the river but watched a few folks fall out of a C130 and an older Huey and Blackhawk fly overhead. Was nice to get out and not chased around by storms.

Rick - my Precision 23 friend and I stayed at Rock Hall last September when we went there for the Precision Nationals (that didn't happen). It is a lovely little marina with nice folks and wonderful sunsets.

Which marina did you stay at in Rock Hall? We spent 3 days at Rock Hall Landing in June/July and loved it. But I'm open to considering others.

Chances are we will not make it that far down over Labor Day. It's a little far for me to go in two days.

I think that it was the Sailing Emporium. It has a mosaic of a sailboat in the ground in front of the marina store. Free donuts, cookies and coffee in the mornings!
