Arlyn, I am in the process of putting together your softlink system. With my 9.9 Merc. it has been a challenge determining attachment points on the motor housing. I think I finally licked the problem by crossing each line to the opposite side of the motor - attaching them to metal protrusions located on each side if the shaft housing (next to the boat's stern). My final task is how to attach the non-flexible line to the rudder. At this point, I'm considering wrapping a one band of aluminum stripping around the rudder which would include some type of ring on the outer edge of the rudder. This strikes me as somewhat crude, but I am having a mental block to any other approach. Any suggestions?
River, I like your idea of letting the lines wrap around the motor to find tie points.
There are no non flexible lines in the system. I used 3/16 line between motor and rudder and 5/16 inch bungee from the motor to the stern quarter stanchion. Brian on the Trailer Sailor asked if he could post the tech tip there and I agreed. He should have said non stretch rather than flex.
Don has it right, I used a small eye strap on the rudder head.
