I need to replace the entire port light in the head. This is due to the hinges having cracked/broken. In trying to remove the inside and outside frame I found it to be very well caulked and secured. David at Catalina (always very helpful I might add) suggests : "It is best to take a long piece of thin wire and run it under the frame of the port to cut through the sealant. you can clean off the remaiming sealant from the boat before installing the new port".
Has anyone else had the problem or done the fix? I need suggestion as to what type of wire. Thanks for your assistance
Yes, several of us have had the problem. It results from the lack of instructions to remove a filler piece when the screen is installed. The filler piece is to stand in the stead of the screen frame so that the weather stripping seals. If this filler piece is not removed when the screen is installed then the excess thickness overstreses the plastic hinges. Make sure on your new one to remove the filler piece if installing the screen.
Now, getting the old one out. First, tape the window around the port to protect it from scratches. Using a very thin wire is usually the best way to handle cutting 5200 sealant but I had good luck with a very fine blade 2" wide putty knife sharpening it well prior to using. A fine blade will make the flex to turn between the window and the port frame. Using a small rubber mallet will help drive the putty knife in. A normal thick blade putty knife won't substitute. It will be necessary to cut all the sealant before the port will come out. Leave the tape on until after the new port is bedded in.

“I need suggestion as to what type of wire.” If you can fine some piano wire or one of the smaller guitar strings (wire) should work for you. Wrap it around something like a couple of screwdrivers or wooden dowels.
thanks for the help, I knew I could count on someone from the group. Fortunately, Catalinz sent me a total replacement port light including the window. I will carefully check and remove the filler.
