Thank you for your support and understanding. This was an unplanned event, so there was no advance warning. While the forum is available, we are still working on "making it look like to use to".
Thanks for all your work to keep the website going.
The status link says that subscriptions are now working:
quote:Forum Email - Subscription email and Email Member feature The forum connection to the email server is not working. So none of the Forum email features are working. All Subscription email and Email Member features are working (Fixed Feb-4)
However, I cannot find a "subscribe" link to add new subscriptions. Is anyone else noticing this issue?

Rick, you should be seeing a link to Subscribe to this topic near the top right of any topic page. And Subscribe to this forum centered above a Forum page.

It's not there. I logged onto the site using Firefox, Chrome, and IE, and same result with all three. I even tried the "find" command looking for the word "subscribe" and it's not there.
Am I the only one who doesn't have it?

No problem with me but are you logged in? When you click on say 'General Sailing Forum' 'Subscribe to this forum' is centered above the page. If you then click on a topic then the 'Subscribe to this topic' Is above the page and off to the right.

Yup--if you're not logged in, the "subscribe" option isn't displayed. (Makes sense--who are you??)

I assure you, I was careful to log onto the website on all three browsers, just as I said in my prior message.
I get the same result on my work computer and my home computer...and even from my Android phone. I've never seen a "Subscribe" link or button since the upgrade. If I disable my ad blocking software, still no change.

I guess you should take it personally. I get the Subscribe link on forums and individual topics, just as Paul and Scott describe.

So that's an interesting point. Is there some setting or checkbox that's different for my account? Is there a way Paul could reset my options?

Yes Rick in your upper right of the page you have 'My Subscriptions' link. I do not show this on my page. Click on it and see if there is some sort of a setting option.

Rick, I think I found the problem. Before the conversion, the subscription options were set for Category, Forum, or Topic. After the conversion, the subscription options were set Forum or Topic. I just checked and found subscription data for Category, which is how I found the new setting was different.
Note: When a user sets their subscription to Category you get an email for every reply in the General Forum, C25 Forum, C250 Forum, Swap Meet, etc... There are a bunch of users getting a lot of daily emails.
I've updated the Subscription Options back to "Category" (same functionality before the conversion).
In Rick's case, check the "My Subscriptions" page. Then see if you can see the "Subscribe" link in the Association Business (category). Then compare to the Sailor's Forum (category).
When I changed the Subscription Options, I hope it fixed this problem.

I think you're on to it. You only get the My Subscriptions link if you have subscribed to something. If you subscribe to a topic, the Subscribe link goes away when you're viewing that topic, and My Subscriptions appears at the top right. If you susbscribe to a forum, you don't get the Subscribe link for any topics in that forum, but it appears in My Subscriptions, where you can cancel the subscription. (I never knew this till now--just tried it.)
Case closed?
I fixed the problem, but it was not user error as you describe above. There was some forum corruption involved, and I'll provide a lengthy description in case anyone else needs to diagnose a similar problem.
I am (was) subscribed to the C250 forum, and to a whole bunch (dozens or hundreds) of individual threads in other forums. So what I should have seen is a subscribe/unsubscribe link in threads for every forum except the C250 forum. There should have also been "Subscribe to this forum" links in all of the other forums too. But I was not seeing any subscribe links anywhere, even in forums that I was not subscribed to at all.
The "My Subscriptions" page did reveal some evidence of corruption, so I got a screenshot before I tried anything to repair it: You'll see a couple subscriptions that are unidentified - clear sign of corruption. After taking this screenshot, I clicked on "Unsubscribe" on the first row, and all of the subscriptions disappeared completely.
But after that, the "Subscribe" links did reappear in all topics and in the top level forums. I also get the subscribe/unsubscribe checkboxes underneath the reply dialogs - something that had also disappeared. So everything has been reset, and I can start subscribing to topics again.
I don't mind having lost old subscriptions - I'm fully willing to begin adding them back in.
I believe that some of the subscription functionality was corrupted when the website was rebuilt, since that's exactly when the problem started. I had let this drag on this long because I assumed that subscriptions had not been restored yet, and that they would eventually if I waited long enough. Finally I realized that something must be wrong.
Thanks for your assistance, and your work to keep the site going!

Russ,
I made my post before seeing yours.
Unfortunately, it's too late to go back and re-check "My Subscriptions." (But I did get a "before" screenshot.) The actions that I took in the above message were done this morning. I didn't have time to write it up until just now. So the subscriptions are gone.
FWIW, I never knowingly subscribed to an entire category - only to C250 forum and other individual threads. And I think if I had done this accidentally, I would have noticed the flood of emails that resulted.
You can see in my above screenshot that the "My Subscriptions" page does show a couple category-level subscriptions, but they are unidentified. Perhaps that's because the feature was not supported until you turned it back on.
Too bad I won't be able to see what categories I had (apparently) subscribed to. But I'm fine with the way things are now.
Thanks again.

In Jan, we converted the Forum from a Windows database to a Linux database. This has proven to be much more reliable (it hasn't gone done since). During the conversion, it appears the Subscription table was not converted correctly.
I checked the Windows backup file and you were subscribed to "C250" and "Swap Meet" forum. After the conversion, your screenshot has 2 Category subscriptions. These look like your old Forum subscriptions. The Topic subscriptions look correct (thanks for your screenshot).
The good news is the Subscription emails are working, because I received your post. The bad news is, everyone should review the My Subscriptions page and unsubscribe/subscribe again to the forums they want to receive emails.

Russ,
Thanks for your diligence in investigating this. I had forgotten about my Swap Meet forum subscription. I just resubscribed to that one. Do you have any idea how the Forum subscriptions got "converted" to Categories subscriptions? (Not important, just curious.)
Also, I just remembered that my dozens of topic subscriptions were wiped out a few days before your server rebuild with an accidental mouse click. I was trying to create a "New Topic" and missed, accidentally clicking "Subscribe to this forum" instead. It turns out that doing so instantaneously cancels out all your Topic subscriptions in that Forum. All it takes is one errant finger on a cell phone, or an accidental mouse click. Is there a way to implement a confirmation screen for this?

Paul and Russ - Just to close the loop on this, is the Forum back to its previous functionality? Any missing features? Any new capabilities? Was also thinking that half of us use Safari at least half of the time. Anybody have any issues? Thanks for your excellent work getting us all back on line. Sometimes forced upgrades spur evolution.
