I'm looking for some opinions on 'Super Shipbottom'. Specifically if you or someone you know has used it. Its made down in Florida and isn't that common or sold up here in Ny although I have heard of it. My usual paint of choice is Pettit Ultima SR60 but it is pricey.http://www.supershipbottom.com/index.htm

Interesting option. You may want to find the referenced reviews in the 96-99 Practical Sailor as they used to run simultaneous bottom paint tests in CT on Long Island Sound as well as the Tampa FL area with results for the same paint often being quite different North vs South. And . . . . don't tell the marina where you may do the painting how much copper is in it!

Scott, Can they ship it by UPS and is it less expensive that your usual brand? I see it lasts 3 seasons. Funny my paint doesn't wear out, it flakes off. In the past I've gotten two seasons out of my paint until it crumbled. In the past, I've scraped the paint all the way down to the barrier coats - maybe I'll have to do it again to use this paint

I don't know yet but my usual Pettit Ultima SR60 runs around $225. I thought I would get some opinions first before before I inguired about the price. If the opinions are good and the price is less I might give it a try. At Brewers we can't paint our own bottoms. So called environmental reasons. I can supply the paint but they charge $15.50 per foot (28ft LOA) plus materials (tape, sandpaper, rollers etc) to apply it. Works out to @$700 with the Ultima. The Ultima 60 is high in copper at 60% and so is the SuperShipbottom (62%) Needless to say that nothing dares to stick to my bottom although I do get some slime even with the slime inhibitors. Sailboats just don't get up enough speed to slough the slime off IMO. So if I can save a few bucks on the paint and still have the same protection and durability, Why not.

I like Pettit's Hydrocoat SR--dual biocides, thins and cleans up with water, doesn't asphyxiate you when you're painting, and at 40% copper, seems to do the job for several seasons in northern waters. Admittedly, my boat gets a somewhat brisker wash-down at cruising speed, but sits a lot in her slip and accumulates almost no slime, even along the waterline.

West Marine has their bottom paint on sale this week for $99/gallon. I might wait a bit longer to see if they'll drop the price some more, but it's already $40 off their list price. My buddy who works at the local store mentioned they have price protection, so if prices fall further in 60 days I can get a refund.
I plan to wirebrush Passage once the snow is over and give it an overall bottom paint job. Our marina still lets us scrape and paint provided we put down a tarp and collect the chips.
