A friend of mine just called and her boyfriend bought her a C27. Apparently the boats in decent shape except the hatch rails are falling apart. Apparently a PO replaced them with somehting other than teak.

They called Catalina Direct and were told the company that did their woodwork stuff went out of business. Any suggestions?

Edit, nevermind you said hatch rails. There was a thread recently, one of the guys visited the Catalina factory in Largo, FL. They had quite a few hand rails, they might still have some hatch rails.

Easy to fabricate wit 2x2x ?feet, a saw and a router or dado blade. Make them with teak or polycarbonate stock. U.S. Plastics is a good source for poly.

If she can get them off to use as a sample a cabinet shop will be able to reproduce them.

I've been to Catalina factory for several parts, and yep they have plenty of hand rails in stock. You might give them a call and see if they can cut the hatch rails for you. They have the whole wood working setup in house. PM me and I'll give you the contact info.

Thanks guys! I had already told her to contact Catalina. I'll pass along the other suggestions.

Unfortunately from the way it sounded the rails just crumbled when she tried to remove them. That's why I think they were not made from teak.

She said the boats perfect inside (all redone) and has a new inboard engine but the boats been in the water for 10 years so they know they're going to have to get a bottom job (and no telling what else) done. The guy bought it and has only sailed it 3 times. They got it for $3,500. She thinks it's a '78.
