I have a 1984 Catalina, my club recently started charging
me fees for a 30' boat. they claim that they mesure all boats
and rounded up to the nereast fot.
Can any one think this is possible?

Tks,

Felipe

I think you need to wave a protest flag at your sailing club.

Now I've never actually put a tape to the boat, but I have a hard time believing that it measures 30ft. When my 29ft mast is laying on the bow pulit and stern rails, it overhangs the bow by about a foot and sticks out past the stern rail a foot or two.

Additionally, the waterline length of a C25 is 22'2". This would mean that your sailing club thinks that your overhangs are almost 8'!

My B.S. meter is peged out on this one. I had a marina here charge me for a 30 foot slip and the slip was only 25'. caught them on that one too. Nope the boat isnt 30 feet long so they had better round down. Only other senario is 30 feet is the smallest slip they deal with.

Even if you measure from the forward most point on the bow pulpit to the trailing edge of the rudder you'll not come close to 30'. I'd certainly challenge your club.

The 1978 is 26' 6" pulpit to rudder. That distance does not count the space the Honda long shaft motor takes when it is up. That could add an additional 1 to 2 feet depending on how they count the motor. Even so, worst case, no way could it be over 28'

Felipe,

I ran into a similar problem with a local ordinance that limited over all parked vehicle length to 26'. My 1979 Catalina 25 with the extra long shaft motor tilted up measures real close to 30' from pulpit to motor skeg. (Not including trailer tongue!) For me there is a happy ending -- the city changed the ordinance! You might want to measure it carefully yourself before protesting too loudly.
