Non skid is found on decks, the top sides are the sides of the hull above the waterline; a very common mistake. Painting top sides is always a last resort, painting decks is often a very smart thing to do. Usually when painting a deck one paints everything and adds a non skid additive in the non skid areas.

I consider it also a "last resort." Is your gelcoat worn through? Have you tried refurbishing the gelcoat? Once you paint, it's never the same--chips and scratches cannot be removed or smoothed over without stripping off all all of the paint. I've watched people going through it, cursing all the way.

I don't think any of us have long term experience with Kiwi Grip. I only learned about it in the past couple years. Every paint will need to be reapplied every few years. That's why the consensus of opinions is that you should only paint when you have no other reasonable alternative.
