I want to spruce up the boat by painting the topside. What kind of day paint should I use for the non-skid area? Thank you.

Non skid is found on decks, the top sides are the sides of the hull above the waterline; a very common mistake. Painting top sides is always a last resort, painting decks is often a very smart thing to do. Usually when painting a deck one paints everything and adds a non skid additive in the non skid areas.

I consider it also a "last resort." Is your gelcoat worn through? Have you tried refurbishing the gelcoat? Once you paint, it's never the same--chips and scratches cannot be removed or smoothed over without stripping off all all of the paint. I've watched people going through it, cursing all the way.

Just a consideration.....

Right I meant the deck. I want to restore this boat. The paint now is very worn and dis colored. The original blue is purplish and looks terrible.

Kiwi grip looks like a good choice and Catalina Direct recommended it yesterday.

My friend used KIWI Grip on his non-skid, and it did a good job, and looks good.

How long does kiwi grip last -- once down this road are you reapplying every few years?

I don't think any of us have long term experience with Kiwi Grip. I only learned about it in the past couple years. Every paint will need to be reapplied every few years. That's why the consensus of opinions is that you should only paint when you have no other reasonable alternative.

Check Practical Sailor, they did some test on this subject a couple of years ago.
