Guys, I just bought the Lewmar 16 single speed self tailing winch off of Ebay. Disassembled, lubed and mounted on the Capri today. I did not lose any parts. The winch will not grab/hold a 5/16" line (or 1/2" line) through the self tailing mechanism. What is strange to me is that the bottom part of the self tailing "jaws" has ridges to grab the line. The top part of the "jaws" is smooth. Is this normal for this model? It seems like I'm missing a top section with ridges. Anyone have any experience with these old models?

Mine has jaws top and bottom if I remember correctly. You should be able to buy replacements from Lewmar without spending an arm and a leg.
Thanks. unfortunately the Holdfast series were made before 1992. I did find the issue with this winch. Whomever put the winch together last put a spacer in the wrong position. The misplaced spacer increased the gap between the top section and the bottom section.
