Beating to windward: Blowing leaves northward into a northerly breeze and watching them arch up and go south over your head.

Tacking: Deciding to blow the leaves to the NW and NE to make some windward progress.

Reaching: Deciding to surrender to the wind and blow the leaves SW or SE.

Running: What some people would rather be doing than blowing leaves.

Sheet: A worn-out fabric rectangle that once covered a mattress.

Easing the sheet: Spreading it on the lawn where you will rake or blow the leaves onto it.

Hauling in the sheet: Grabbing all four corners and carrying the leaves northward.

Mast rake: One with an extra-long handle.

Spreaders: The kids playing in the leaf pile you just made.

Stay: What you say to the dog to try to keep her from spreading with the kids.

Sheet winch: Helper with two of the sheet corners. (Replace the "i" with an "e".)

Jenny: Name of the wench. (...although not here.)

Keel: What you do when you finally can retire to the family room and turn on the football game.

Grinder: Large, messy sandwich for when you've keeled.

Trailer: Scenes from the new Star Wars movie, played at halftime.

One more...

DNF: What happens when you trash your knees lifting a large Honda garden tractor off a rock onto which you backed it.
