Has anyone ever had to unclog the cooling water exhaust port (nipple) on one of these motors? It sticks out of the block right behind the line from the gas tank and has a short rubber hose attached to it for the pee stream from the engine. The parts diagram shows the nipple as a separate part, and I can see that it is clogged up, probably the lost impeller key, but I cannot see how to remove the nipple. The motor came with a C22 boat we bought to race. I've already repaired the water pump, but there is no pee stream because of the blockage. I don't want to run the motor more or I'll burn up another impeller, and I am reluctant to try and push the blockage back into the block for fear it would do more damage there. Fortunately, I have another motor to use on the boat. I've been trying to fix this one just for the educational value and fun of it.

I've already ordered several parts from then for this motor, impeller & key, gaskets, etc., some of which I hope I can return if not needed. And yes, the parts manual does show the nipple, which I'm probably going to have to also buy. I just can't figure out how to remove the current nipple. There are no flat sides at the base to place a wrench.

Next week I hope to have some time to get back to the motor. Have had to deal with other matters, including a 5-day trip to Michigan and a little last minute tax work. Will try compressed air again and attempt to force water through the system. I'll try to push the obstruction out enough to grab it with needle nose pliers. If that doesn't work, I'll likely have to do more dis-assembly.

I got the exhaust port unclogged, but there is still no pee stream. Beyond my skills, I suspect there is a clog in the engine block, so I took it to the shop. Bummer!

Yes, that has happened on a friend's Tohatsu ( have one too so I payed special interest). Outboard motors.com has the part - easy to remove and use a lube to put back over the fittings.

I tried to pull the water exit port from the block and could not get it to budge. Have to wait and see. Took it to Cumberland Watersports (aka Online Outboards). They are only about 30 miles from my home.
