Yes, the keel bolt repair came out great and I signed off on the repair and the boat is ours! We'll see you on the water real soon.

May you have many happy hours and adventures with her. With gas prices what they are, it's a good time to have a sailboat!

Got any photos of the repairs?

Hi, I will be taking the new Indiscipline (formerly Miss Sociable) south to Dana Point in one of the next 3 weekends. Next Sat - Sun is forecast for another storm so we'll see how things look later this week. If only the deal was closed earlier, because this weekend was picture perfect for sailing, sunny, warm, calm seas under 2 feet and 5 to 10 knots of wind in the afternoon!

Anyone who wants to sail down on a Saturday and return to your home port on Sunday, let me know. We can have a great party at the pizza place in Dana Point! Right now I'm thinking this will be March 22 and 23. Dana has a decent free anchorage and available guest docks.

I took some pictures of the repair, but they don't really show very much. Imagine 6 shiny new 3/4 inch stainless bolts, washers, and nuts bedded in epoxy next to the old, cruddy rusted away studs. Each bolt was threaded into at least 3 inches of iron. It's a good looking job that should last the next 20 years.

Yesterday, Dennis, the seller, moved all his things out and I began moving our things in. Then he gave me the keys and I locked the boat up. It was a surreal moment. It didn't seem like I really owned it until that moment.

This week I am busy arranging insurance, registration, and things like that.

Congrats on the 'new' acquisition !! Sounds like you'll be a very happy camper (and sailor) with the new toy.

Got a question, since I wasn't following the thread as dutifully as I should. Where WAS the boat located, up in the Long Beach area ?? Also, what's the scoop on Dana Point ?? Did you get a slip down there ?? Reason for the inquiry is that I'm getting REAL close to putting my project in the water and am looking for a home. DP is high on the list, but geographically may not make sense, although it's a heck of a nice harbor. Let me know whenever you have a minute.

Ya know, I might be interested in crewing on your delivery if you have a spare space.

Good luck & best regards,
Richard C

The boat is currently in Long Beach at the Seal Beach Yacht club.

Dana Point has 15 to 20 slips available in our size. You have to pay for a 28' spot so it's $276 per month. It's a real nice place with quick access to the ocean, and a relatively short run to Catalina. Bottom cleaning is going to cost $35/month. For me, living in north San Diego County, its about the same distance to drive to Mission Bay as it is to Dana Point. However from Dana we figure we can take most 3 day weekends at Catalina but from Mission Bay it would only be once per year (vacation time).

The previous owner is going to deliver the boat with me and give me a sailing lesson. I invite everyone who wants to go on a weekend cruise to bring their boats to Long Beach March 22, sail to Dana with me, take a guest slip or there is a free anchorage, have a pizza party, and sail back on Sunday (although I'll be staying - I might go half way with you).

Jim,

congratulations and welcome to club!

Dana Point is a beautiful place, it would be a wonderful home for sailing on the west coast.

I remember when I first put my own combination lock on the companionway of Passage a couple of years ago... A great feeling!

You've done all the right things so far--just be careful about that weather window for sailing down the coast.

Welcome!

Jim,
Tied to contact you 'off-line' but w/ no success. Do you know what will become of the slip that is being vacated up in Long Beach ??
I'd just about trade my 1st born (and maybe the 2nd, too) for a slip up in Alamitos Bay.

Please let me know if prev-owner may have let his intentions be known.

Regards & pencil me in for a raft-up down in DP later this spring/summer.

The PO is keeping the slip. This boat has been in this slip for the last 12 years - even though owners have changed 3 times!

He's moving a power boat in.

My profile is up to date and other people have contacted me off line, I don't know what the problem is. I am afraid to post my email because of spammers!
