Hi,

I've had my boat and motor in storage for about 5 years. The motor is a 9.8 Tohatsu that has very little use. anything special I should do to to the motor ready after such a long storage period? The boat was outside and the motor was in a garage, it's Wisconsin so everything got cold. I'm thinking replace all fluids, plugs, check hoses, put a little fogger in the cylinders and go. If it pumps water, should I trust the impeller or just replace it?

I would see if it pumps, but I would definitely have a replacement kit on hand

A new carburetor is available on Amazon for around $150, get one now, put it on.

I would replace it. After 5yrs the rubber probably has gotten brittle and degraded. Unless the impeller was new when you stored the motor then you have to add the years of use before storage to the 5yrs. The impeller fins will also have a "set" to them. Why take a chance.

I would say yes on the impeller, and no on the carb. If it doesn't fire rite up I don't see why you couldn't remove it and pull the bowl off. If there is major problems you could go from there. If you ran the Gass out, it should be fine. Wire brush bristles work pretty good for cleaning out jets. Just cut one off if it's the appropriate diameter.
