Now, my chart seems to be saying the 13th Street Bridge between the Manatee River and the marina is fixed with 12.8' vertical clearance. But I see some fair-sized sailboats in Cut's Edge. How does that work?
I'd guess you'd have to enter Terra Ceia Bay by using the marked channel between Rattlesnake Key and Snead Island. Scroll down to page 21 on the following link. Link to Nautical Chart

I tried it 3-4 times (to make sure I followed the instructions) and got this error message: "This site can’t be reached https’s server DNS address could not be found."
Puzzling Steve... At what point do you get that?
I got the error message after I finished the edit, clicked on "Preview" and then clicked on the link. EDIT: I just tried it in the above post and it works. Don't know why it didn't work in the earlier post. Probably just a computer gremlin.

I'm not sure it worked--the first page of this thread is still super-wide apparently because of the Yahoo sailing lessons search URL.

Ok, as of right now, I can come down tomorrow, Thursday. Unfortunately, a phone call could change that and I would have to back out.
Couple of questions, tell me about the outboard. Age, type, reliability? Is it fueled up and ready to go?
Got the necessary safety equipment?
Where is the boat and what time will we pull out?
I will bring my gear bag and have binos, hand-held GPS, VHF radio, PLB, flares and inflatable PFD. You will at least need a throw-able floatation device, PFD and a horn.
Weather looks good.
Did you take this boat out on a sea trial?

Michael, I really hope you can take advantage of Davy's offer. He'll show you the route you need to take to get in and out of your marina, and the basics of how to navigate through a marked channel. It will be an enormous help to you.
(I removed the link in my previous post that didn't work right, to restore the formatting of this thread. If you Google the phrase that I inserted in that earlier post, you'll find the same information.)

How about a brief report, Michael? Were you able to get in some sailing? Where did you go? Having seen the waterway marks, do you think you’ll be able to find your way in and out of your marina with the aid of a chart? Did the boat sail well? Any problems? Some of us northerners haven't been able to sail yet this spring, so an after-sail report would be welcome.

Yup--and we're always anxious to add our advice for new skippers!

Engine trouble nixed everything but a tow. I did get a pic of me on the tiller looking like I was sailing. ;-)
Got the boat over to the dry dock marina and had an enjoyable time on the water in the process. Got to me Davy J whick was a pleasure and he provided a trove of good info to boot. Looks like I'm going to enjoy being a sailor.
Insurance covered the $1,000 dollar tow, amazingly enough.
