For me it's not so much theifs as I am aware that they could easily foil my lock, but to prevent teenagers from utilizing it as a hang out. My boat is at a pretty large apartment complex on the water with all types of people that live there and the last thing I would want to find while getting to the boat is a bunch of empty schlitz cans and questionable stains on my cushions. Just sayin...

Bobbin is at my dock and I still have a small lock to keep out the "honest" people. Lots of small fishing boats go by and three fishing rods mysteriously disappeared off the dock....

I lock mine up. Also use bird netting. We are on a mooring and so far no problems, knock on wood. A neighbor boat had the notion of not locking his for some of the said reasons and found out bums had started sleeping on it.
